CnB networks are hosting two panels at Tallinn Music Week. Ralph Christoph and Fabian Töpel are travelling to Tallinn to explore the estonian music scene and this years European Capital of Culture. Ralph Christoph will host a highly anticipated panel today discussing the long term effects of European Capitals of Culture with representatives from Liverpool, Essen, Turku and Tallinn. Should be very interesting. Read what Ralph expects from today:

Today starts the 3rd edition of TALLINN MUSIC WEEK in Tallinn, Estonia. The city welcomes us with clear blue skies and a chilly -1 degree. So, best conditons to join us, when we enter the conference programme at 1.30 pm with a public panel within the CREATIVE HOTSPOTS conference at Rotermanni Atrium (Rotermanni 5). Under the titel C’n’B Networks presents: the concept of the European Capital of Culture, I will moderate our talk on sustainability becoming a major factor, far beyond green issues such as climate protection or promoting renewable energy sources. In the cultural field, sustainable concepts are also becoming increasingly important and necessary – but are still too often neglected. We would like to start a practical discussion and debate on the concept of the European Capital of Culture. Therefore we have invited representatives of the former European Cultural Capitals like Essen (2010) and Liverpool (2008), to give an insight into their strategies of preserving their won territory and status: how difficult is it to generate considerable cultural, social and economic benefits, and can this project really help foster an urban regeneration, to change the city’s image and raise its visibility and profile on an international scale.

Panelists are Neil Peterson (Liverpool 2008’s Head of International Relations and The Liverpool Welcome Programme), Bernd Fesel (Vice-Director of European Centre for Creative Economy, which was founded as a sustainable institution by the European Capital of Culture 2010, Essen for the RUHR), Elena Natale (Tallinn-based representative of the “European Capitals of Culture 2011 – developers of cultural tourism” external project of the Southern Finland and Estonian sub-programme of the Central Baltic Sea programme), and Cay Sevón (Chief Executive Officer of the Turku 2011 Foundation and responsible for leading the operational work of executing Turku as European Capital of Culture).
